  • December 12, 2014 - We are pleased to announce the General availability of ReQuest for MQ Version 6.0 for Distributed Windows, Linux and Unix platforms.  Highlights of the enhancements and newly introduced features include:

- Configuration data for, and statistics collected by Log Manager are stored in local repositories at the actual agent(s). This simplifies the configuration and increases the reliability of Log Manager as the dependencies on network components and external database servers have been eliminated. With this new capability we have also reintroduced the ability to use an embedded Derby database for the Central Configuration data, facilitating initial setup for evaluation purposes, and/or permanent setup for smaller installations that only need to deploy one single Client instance.

  • - When upgrading from RQ5.0 to RQ6.0, eventual existing “Archived log files” can be used as input for all functions of RQ6, but existing file statistics will no longer be available.

  • - The user interface (Client GUI) no longer has a separate navigator item for “Log Managers”. The “Agent” nodes have been expanded to show all known queue managers at each agent, and allow defining “Log Managers” as required.

- Enhanced reporting of “Message Properties”: ReQuest reports now show eventual message properties as a readable XML string, in the same syntax as used by the RFH2 variable data.

- Improved support for long messages: MQ writes long messages in segments to the recovery log (i.e. a single PUT record, and one or more PUTPART records). The amount of data available in the actual PUT log record can vary from only a few bytes, up to at most 256KB on distributed platforms, or only 3650 bytes on z/OS. ReQuest now combines PUT and PUTPART log records up to at least 256KB (or up to the total length of the message if shorter) in a single PUT record on all platforms, allowing filtering and “Enhanced Property handling” significantly, and reducing the size of several reports. Please note that for messages longer than 256KB the eventual remaining PUTPART log records continue to be reported as before.

August 23, 2012 - Cressida is pleased to announce the General Availability of ReQuest for WMQ version 5.0. A summary of the major changes in ReQuest 5.0 are:

Introduction of our new Log Manager component. For a long time we have been reading and hearing the requirement by Distributed platforms WMQ Administrators and systems staff for built in Log Management functionality as found in the zOS WMQ environment. Well, we have done something about that!

Log Manager introduces extensive functionality for manipulating and changing all WebSphere MQ queue manager attributes stored in .ini files and/or the Windows Registry. The list of features include the ability to switch between linear/circular logging and changing the size and attributes of the log files. If the changes made require that the queue manager is physically recreated, Log Manager ensures that all existing objects and messages are preserved during the process.

Log Manager brings WMQ administrators the added built-in functionality to create archive copies (optionally compressed) of the active log files, regardless of whether the Queue Manager uses linear or circular logging. When using linear logging, log files that have been archived and are no longer needed for (WMQ) recovery, are automatically deleted from the active directory. When using circular logging, ReQuest’s Recover function can be used to recover from media failures.

The Log Manager component is available for all distributed platforms supported by ReQuest.

All ReQuest functions (Report, Replay, Recover) have been enhanced to either process active log files or Log Manager archived log files, giving virtually unlimited access to historical log data.

The Summary Report can now also be written to the databse for viewing with the ReQuest Reporter.

ReQuest technical documentation has been thoroughly enhanced and streamlined to offer better and greater clarity of technical content.
